Finishing is what is required at every house to make it look extraordinary and adds beauty to the outlook of the house as it covers all the areas of the house to make them look neat and fine. However, with some time these finishes especially the brass and nickel ones can get scratched and scuffed and needs to be properly maintained. This article will address all the issues related to the maintenance of the finishes to make them stay bright, shiny, and better looking.
Finishes and Enamels
- The finishes of the kitchen and bath are durable and will remain beautiful when you maintain them properly.
- Enamels are generated from tiles, porcelain, or vitreous china as these surfaces are had but they can be scratched with misuse such as blowing them with heavy objects and by using abrasive cleaners for cleaning them.
Stainless Steel, Chrome, Nickel, and Brass Finishes
- Stainless steel finishes are placed to resist staining. They require a thorough scrubbing occasionally and by maintaining them they can last for a longer time. Chrome finishes are hard, durable, and have a scratch-resistant finish. Nickel has a resemblance with it but it can scratch more easily. Brass fixtures are treated with a clear and protective coating to make surfaces more durable.
Care and Maintenance of Finishes
The following are the guidelines for the finishes of the home kitchen and Bath.
For Enamel
- Be careful with metal utensils, sharp utensils, pots, and pans, etc. while washing dishes. Scrapping metal utensils in a sink scratches and dulls the enamel producing stains that are hard to remove.
- Do not use strong abrasive cleaners when cleaning as the shiny fixtures can be dulled or stained in a short time by using them also the improper cleaning can chip, scratch, and stain the enamels.
For Stainless Steel
- Clean stainless steel finish using warm water and a non-abrasive cleanser. You can also use commercial stainless steel cleanser. Make sure to dry completely after cleaning.
- Occasionally clean a stainless steel sink by filling it full with 50/50 solution of water and bleach and let it stand for 15 minutes and then drain it on the side and bottom of the sink.
- After each use, rinse it to remove chloride residue found in soaps and detergents.
- Scrub them once a weak to make them look lustrous.
- Do not let soaps, salts, or water to dry on the finish. Wipe the surface after use.
- Carefully wash dishes in the sink as they can produce dents having a strong impact.
- Avoid using steel wool pads as they damage the finish.
- Avoid using the sink as a chopping block or cutting board as knives can scratch the finishes and can dull the knives.
- Wet sponges and clothes left on the sink can do discoloration and rust.
